‘Pratyahara’, a Sanskrit word meaning ‘the conscious withdrawal of senses’. It's the fifth step of the eight-limbed path of Sage Patanjali’s ‘Ashtanga Yoga’ (Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharna, Dhyana, Samadhi)
Join me to learn, practice & develop a regular routine of Pranayama combined with yogic techniques to promote overall health & well being.
Each class will include Pranayama + one yogic technique
Pranayama
Breathing techniques that help regulate the breath, rid the toxins and harmonise Prana (vital energy flow) through the body. A purifying process with numerous physical & mental benefits.
Yog Nidra
Also known as Yogic Sleep or Deep relaxation technique. A powerful guided meditation during a state of equilibrium (homeostasis) coasting between wakefulness & sleep. Drawing the attention inwards, where the conscious & unconscious aspects of the mind reveal themselves helping us reach an intrinsic state of deep blissful awareness. From here, we can be healed & restored. Helps in rejuvenation, improves concentration & memory. Improves ANS (autonomic nervous system) responsible for metabolism, healing & growth. Activates the parasympathetic nervous system supporting our rest & digest state reducing stress & triggers.
Yog Kriya
Techniques to assist & advance ‘Pratyahara’ i.e. withdrawing the senses from the outer world & heighten the inner awareness. Techniques like:
* Tratak (candle gazing) Purifies the eyes, strengthens the eye muscles and improves vision and memory. Helps with sleep related difficulties. Develops intuition, the ability to visualise and willpower.
* Nishpanda Bhava (motionless observation). Helps in inculcating the attitude of non-attachment & letting go (Vairagya Bhava), deep relaxation which heals the body & mind, improves health of the heart, lungs & the nervous system.
* Anitya Bhavana (reflection). Understanding & acceptance of the impermanent nature of everything around & within us. Improves memory, amplifies self awareness & mindfulness.
* Pratipaksha Bhavana (opposite attitude cultivation). Consciously choosing how you perceive any situation / thoughts, which has an impact on the kind of emotions that will emerge from it thus helping in inducing positivity in mind, reduces suffering and surpassing the toxic emotions.
and many more.
Dhyana
Guided meditations. Benefits include reduced stress, controlled anxiety, enhancing emotional health, self-awareness, concentration, memory & sleep, balanced blood pressure, overall emotional health & well-being.
* Please carry your yoga mat & a blanket / warm shawl.
* Please be on time, late entrants may not be able to join.
